Location
San Bernardino, CA
Delivery
Design-Build, PS&E with construction support
Leadership role
Deputy PM · Lead Civil Designer
Construction value
$165M
As technical civil subconsultant to the design-build team, the principal developed the geometric alignments carrying the new viaduct over the BNSF rail yard, setting the roadway profile of the bridge and Mt. Vernon Avenue while minimizing impacts to local cross streets. Soffit elevation, settlement and deck thickness criteria were coordinated directly with the bridge engineer.
The principal directed street improvement plans for Cabrera Avenue, Kingman Street, Mt. Vernon Avenue, 2nd and 3rd Streets and a new alley; supervised field surveys of existing conditions; and oversaw water, sewer, hydrology and storm drain plans, temporary construction easements and ADA compliance. Five traffic signals were modified with temporary standards for the detour route.

Delivery
Rapid-delivery PS&E with construction management
Leadership role
Project Manager · Lead Civil Engineer
Construction value
$8M
4,800 feet of new airport access roadway designed in three months, covering street improvements, traffic signal modification, street lighting, utility coordination, drainage and an ADA path of travel at a secure facility.
The principal directed field surveying, right-of-way surveys, utility investigations and as-built research, and ran a concrete-versus-asphalt pavement cost-benefit analysis. Power for site lighting, guard shacks and the rolling gate was drawn from an existing building, bypassing the typical lead time for a new utility service connection.
